Should we be charging for this level of entertainment???

Ok. First off, the title is just a joke. But it does help you understand the level of excitement that our games are at. We did put together another final inning walk-off-hit-win in a game we trailed from the very 1st inning. The first game of the double-header we controlled from the beginning, and held a very good Calvary team to only 7 runs. Game 1 was 11-7 (W) and game 2 was 14-13 (W).

There is alot that can be said about these games....so if you missed them, was what YOU were doing THAT important? Once again, just kidding. I'm going to leave this post short (at least for now) and I hope the players will fill in their own personal highlights of the games in the comments to help you see what you may have missed.

For everyone that was there....I'm extremely proud of my team for sticking together and NOT giving up, even when things weren't looking good. And our fans, we've been hearing you, and we've responded.......OC Crossroads softball, a perfect 3-0.

Maybe I should have put it in the post itself...but I would like to set the stage for the last game.

In this game, we fielded first. Calvary jumped out to a quick lead by scoring 5 in the first. We managed only 3. Over the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings their score slowly escalated to 9 while ours stood at 3. In the 5th, we finally shut them down and held them scoreless. In our at-bats, we put together a total of 5 runs to cut their lead to one (9-8). Knowing we had a win within reach we managed to shut them down again, but they did the same to us when we came up to bat. Thankfully there was enough time to play one more. Knowing that their one-run lead wouldn't be enough, they put up 4 runs on us with a couple hot bats. That made the score 13-8. The feeling from the team was that we were not going to accept a loss here, but fight it out until the end. Our early batters got hits and we drove a couple of guys in quickly to cut the lead to 3. With another clutch single we drove in another run to cut it to 2. The pitcher walked a couple of guys and loaded the bases and helped some in to tie the score. So we had 2 outs with the bases loaded and a tie score. An out means the game is over and we have to accept a tie (what is this...hockey???). A walk or hit means we drive in the winning run and the game is over. And thats just what we did. A soft single right in-between the 3B and SS just slow enough that a play couldn't be made, and the game was won.

Calvary held us scoreless in 4 of the 7 innings, but the team never felt defeated and refused to give up. I was happy to see their hard work and focus. When you're down, its hard to stay positive and focussed on what you need to do. I think this win is special motivation for the team and it might go down in XR history as one of the greatest comebacks. But we have an exciting schedule ahead of us, including a double-header with rival OC-Silver in June.

That was longer than I had anticipated....sorry. Or, you're welcome.

I felt that the games showed our patience and our resolve. Admittedly, we were fortunate to have the last game of the night, and an umpire that allowed us to play out the full 7 innings. If not, we would have lost the 2nd game.

But our patience prevailed over theirs, and our effort won in the end. Jon's running like a bat outta hades got him to first. Same for Sandoval. Same for Greg, Billy's triple, etc. Everyone worked hard to make that game go the way it did. Even though they are more stressful, close games are worth it, because they emphasize every persons "small" contribution and makes them that much more significant. Think about it... without Billy's triple, we would have been one run short. Without Dave's one-run shot, we would have lost. Without every hit, every running catch, and every moment of focusing on the game, we would not have won. I will appreciate the game more and more, because it means more than balls and bats and runs on the board. It's a growing experience where we get to have fun while learning how to overcome adversity (even among ourselves?:)) and never give up.

Okay, 'nuf sounding corny! LOL

I hate to say this, mainly because Ed has a great point about everyone's contribution, but most of those stats mentioned are from our first game. And its because of all those things that we controlled that game and pulled off a solid win.

And the second game went into 7 innings because time permitted it to. I think because we had 4 innings with 5 batters or less helped us into that NECESSARY 7th inning. Plus we had a 123 inning or two on them as well.

But nevertheless, Eddie is right about our resolve and patience and most importantly it being a TEAM effort. There is no INDIVIDUAL that wins a team game.
